Rachel Weisz as Athena, goddess of war, wisdom and weaving.
Athena is the eldest and favorite daughter of Zeus. She is a fierce warrior but also extremely intuitive and perceptive. She is close friends with Nike, the goddess of victory. She visits the mortals with Hephaestus and realize how important it is the gods restore the mortals wavering faith. When Zeus sends many of the gods out on various missions Athena stays behind to protect Olympus. Gaia sends a dracon to attack Olympus and Athena, with Hephaestus, Hera and Zeus, fight it off. Athena is at Zeus side when the battle begins and slays the herald of the giants and fights her old friend Pallas. When Nike intervenes, Pallas accidentally slays her and Athena slays him in the anger of the moment. Athena has a hard time with the victory of the gods because of the loss of Nike and Pallas. At Heracles and Hebe's wedding, Athena thinks she sees a glimpse of the spirit of Nike and her hope is restored.
Athena has to be strong and intelligent. Rachel has been my first choice for a while and she is one of my favorite actresses. I think she can be tough, intelligent and beautiful. Some might think she is getting a little old but I think she is perfect, Athena was Zeus oldest child and from his first wife, Metis. I think Rachel is the perfect balance of everything Athena needs to be.
Her animal companion is an owl.

Ooh, good choice. I've really only seen two roles of hers, but they were great.
Evelyn O'Connell from "The Mummy" and Saphira from "Eragon" (she was one of the only three good actors in that movie).
